Sunday Post, Sunday Salon, Mailbox Monday and It's Monday What Are You Reading? August 30 Edition

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share our news. A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

Sunday Salon hosted by Readerbuzz is simply a place for us to link up and to share what we have been doing during the week. Sunday Salon is a great way to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

My son will be starting school this week. He is in his last year of high school. We're all a bit nervous with this pandemic still around. We've been told that students will be assigned with a group in one classroom for the rest of the year and the teachers will be going to them to teach the different subjects. They will have no lockers and the cafeteria and library are closed. On a 7 day cycle, he will be going to school 4 days and learning online from home the other 3 days. This is all new and unprecedented so we'll have to see how it all works out. I'm assuming it's pretty much the same in most of North America.

My daughter on the other hand is starting university and all her learning is online.

I'm still working full-time in healthcare and good books are keeping me happy. I got a great mailbox this week!

Hope you are all well. Stay safe and take care of each other.

Mailbox Monday Edition

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. Mailbox Monday now has a permanent home on its blog. Link up to share your MM.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organize yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever-growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date.

What I reviewed and/or featured last week:

I loved the Watcher series by this author and this new book in a series was good too!

A good quick romantic suspense.

Currently Reading:

I love reading non-fiction almost as much as fiction. These two books are helping me weather the storm of parenting a teen while working full-time during a pandemic.

Stop by and enter my giveaways!

Also posted on the right sidebar.

Hope you all have a great reading week.

  1. It looks like you had a great reading week. The university where I work is open to in-person classes but most I think are on some kind of hybrid model (students sometimes in person and sometimes virtual).

    1. Who would ever have thought we would be offering hybrid model of education. Still feels weird for the kids until they fully adapt.

  2. When my kids first went back to school in late May they had a similar schedule and it worked out ok. My youngest daughter is in her last year so she had a 3days in school each week, the boys, who are in yrs 9+10 had 2 days a week. They’ve been back full time for months now though they still have staggered break times to avoid crowding.

Wishing you a great reading week

  3. I feel like educators are trying to do what is best for students. Educators have had to make some difficult decisions. I hope all will go beautifully for your children.

Your new Kindle books all look good. I need to find some books I can get lost in. I finally gave up on four books this morning that I just wasn't enjoying.

I hope you have a good week.

    1. I agree the situation isn't easy for educators. Yeah, I feel the same as you about giving up on books I don't enjoy. I have too many other books waiting to be read.

  4. Same here- starting university and one in high school and similar experiences. Our high school is doing online, logging into a live classroom from home, and our university is all online now too. Crazy times. :)

  6. Yes my daughter chose all online. Some classes were to meet just one day a week on campus but she didn't want to do even that much. I like the sound of the way they are doing the high school. If they wear masks, wash their hands, distance a bit, that could work pretty well. Good luck!

  7. One of our girls heads back to campus tomorrow. I'm nervous, but I know they are testing everyone twice a week and have made a ton of adjustments to keep everyone safe. Our other daughter decided to opt out of a semester at college because they are all online classes and she can't learn that way.

What a great mailbox you had this week. 50+ and Healthy and The Beach Bar sound wonderful. Legacy of Secrets sounds good too. I'll have to check out your review. Hope you have a nice week.

  9. Good idea to have the teachers move from class to class instead of the students. I'm very glad I have retired and don't have to go back to the classroom.

    THE TUSCAN GIRL looks good.

    Have a wonderful week, Laura.

  10. I am curious about Freedom Lessons and tempted by The Beach Bar. Enjoy!

My youngest grandson will be a high school senior, and I think they are mixing online learning with classes, too. I am worried about the kids in their school programs, and hope they can all stay safe.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  15. You received a great lot of books this week. I like the summer, beachy ones. I could do with some nice warm reads now. My daughter has been doing University online since March. It has saved her lots of driving time.

  16. Good luck for your kids first day back at school. My son finished comprehensive (high school here in UK) and is about to start college. Some great books in your mailbox, love the covers with the beaches / summer scenes on. Its starting to turn cold here so a good summer read is needed.

    1. I think I'm trying to make summer last as long as possible, which is why I'm attracted to beach novels right now.
