Mailbox Monday and It's Monday, What Are You Reading? for Jan 18

Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia who now blogs at To Be Continued. It is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. Mailbox Monday now has a permanent home on its blog. Link up to share your MM.

So who of you is debating about going to BEA this year? I know I am. I was planning on going but I'm having second thoughts. Chicago is far from Montreal and the currency exchange for Canadians is not good this year...so still thinking about it.

Some great books in my mailbox this past week:

This historical fiction novel is tour with iRead Book Tours in February.

Emmy Nation: Undercover Suffragette by L. Davis Munro

Being an independent woman in 1913 London is certainly empowering, but Emmy Nation is tired of the inescapable damp seeping through her worn shoes and the hopeless grumblings of her stomach.

When she receives an offer from Scotland Yard to boost her typist income by spying on the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU), Emmy jumps at the chance. But as she grows closer to the WSPU women the lines begin to blur, and when a painful part of her past resurfaces Emmy begins to question her choices.

How far are you willing to go to secure your equality?

Free Kindle Books:

Never Never by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher

Never Never, a novella series. Book one of three.

Best friends since they could walk. In love since the age of fourteen.
Complete strangers since this morning.
He'll do anything to remember. She'll do anything to forget.

J'Adore Montréal by Isabelle Laflèche

Catherine Lambert is an endearing, stylish and razor-sharp legal mind. Along with her trusted legal assistant Rikash, a street savvy, wickedly funny, lover of everything chic, they arrive in Montreal for an evening of fun and glamour for the re-opening of the Dior boutique in the city's chicest department store. During the festivities, Catherine catches the eye of a mysterious local designer who appears to have something up his sleeve. Once again, she will need to use her unparalleled savoir faire to get to the bottom of things while Rikash mingles with the attractive local crowd...

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date.

Posts From Last Week:

Giving Candy to Strangers by Stan Holden (one of the best entrepreneurial books I've read)

I'm registered for BEA but really don't think I'll make it there.

  6. Hi Laura,

It will be such a shame if many of you can't mangae BEA this year, however I know what you mean about the pesky exchange rates. The rate from £UK to $US is also at rock bottom right now!

I am really interested in 'Emmy Nation'. Any novel which comes with a large dollop of social history will always intrigue me. A good author who can successfully blend fact with fiction, will always attract me, so thanks for sharing and enjoy all your new finds this week :)

    1. There are great book fairs in London, too, right? I wanted to attend Le Salon du Livre in Paris but after all the terrorist attacks I changed my mind.

  7. I have never gone, but really would love to. I just can't justify the expense.

Emmy Nation sounds fabulous. I'll have to add it to my list.

Hope you enjoy your new books.

  8. I wont be going to BEA. I haven't been there yet. I missed the opportunity once when it was in NYC. I might get there one day. I hope you enjoy all of your new books and have a great week.

    1. It's quite the experience. If you're so close, I say go for it, even if you just attend for one day.

    2. Oh Mary....definitely go the BEA. You will LOVE it. The best part is meeting other bloggers in person. :)

And don't forget to sign up for the Speed Dating session...it is usually on Fridays. That is tons of fun.

  12. I won't be doing BEA just because of the exchange rate. Its not NYC where its easier to get to so when you have to factor in travel, hotel and shipping books home. Thats the deciding factor for me unless I win a lottery then I am going LOL

  13. Wait, is the BEA in Chicago this year? I've always wanted to go, but haven't been able to make it to NYC. Chicago is so much closer . . .

    1. Then you must go! Who knows where it will be next year. It's worth it even if you just go for one day.
