As Kitty explores the strange and magical water world of the Florida Keys her knack for getting herself into precarious situations sweeps her headlong into the adventure of a lifetime involving mysterious lights, ancient shipwrecks, razor-toothed barracudas and even a sighting of the great Ernest Hemingway himself. This exhilarating story will have armchair explorers and amateur detectives alike anxiously following every twist and turn as they are swept across the landscape and history of the Florida Keys all the way from Key West to the strange and remarkable world of Fort Jefferson and the Dry Tortugas.
In my opinion Book two is as good as and even better than the first. I continue to marvel that the author (a man) can convincingly write in the "voice" of a teenage girl. I love the short chapters with their amusing titles, such as Six-Toed Cats and Hemingway's Last Penny or The Tuna Witch Wahoo Whacker. Check out the section entitled Some Further Reading (if You're Interested) that includes information ranging from the Tofino Whale Festival to Key Lime Pie, to How Much a Silver Bar is Worth, to interesting websites. Who knew there is a website called theoriginalkeylimepie.com?
Apart from the comedic aspect, the author succeeds in entertaining and enlightening the reader. I love to discover new things, particularly in connection with history, so was thrilled to learn details of shipwrecks from the 1600's and the fort on the Dry Tortugas, just south of the Keys, not to mention the origin of "Sloppy Joe" sandwiches.
I highly recommend this fast-paced, entertaining, educational novel to young and old alike.

More exciting adventures for Kitty Hawk aboard her red & white De Havilland Beaver seaplane as she undertakes a year-long round-the-world trip, in imitation of her hero, Amelia Earhart's flight on 1937. Kitty takes a side-trip to Florida & that's when the mystery & adventure begins that includes a search for Ernest Hemingway, luminous blue-green lights, mysterious bricks, deep-sea spying & buried treasure! In my opinion Book two is as good as and even better than the first.
