Mailbox Monday for April 24

It's the last Sunday in April! Where did this month go? Here's what came in my mailbox last week.

Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia at A Girl and Her Books. It is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. Passages to the Past is hosting for the month of April. You can view the touring blog list at Mailbox Monday blog for the upcoming months.

The 39 Clues Book 11: Vespers Rising by Rick Riordan, Peter Lerangis, Gordon Korman and Jude Watson (for review from Scholastic)

The Cahills thought they were the most powerful family the world had ever known. They thought they were the only ones who knew about Gideon Cahill and his Clues. The Cahills were wrong.

Powerful enemies — the Vespers — have been waiting in the shadows. Now it’s their time to rise and the world will never be the same. In Vespers Rising, a brand new 39 Clues novel, bestselling authors Rick Riordan, Peter Lerangis, Gordon Korman and Jude Watson take on the hidden history of the Cahills and the Vespers, and the last, terrible legacy Grace Cahill leaves for Amy and Dan.

The Book of Awesome by Neil Pasricha (bought at Costco, I couldn't resist!)

The Book of Awesome presents simple pleasures for a younger, hipper generation. From the smell of gasoline to fixing electronics by smacking them to the extra time you get when the clocks roll back, The Book of Awesome reminds readers of little things that make us smile everyday.

Entries include: Old dangerous playground equipment, Wearing underwear just out of the dryer, Being the first table called up for the dinner buffet at a wedding, Watching The Price Is Right when you're home sick, When the vending machine gives you two things instead of one, The first shower you take after not showering for a really long time, When cashiers open up new checkout lanes at the grocery store, Sleeping in new bed sheets, Waiters and waitresses who bring free refills without asking, and hundreds more.

Mr. Darcy's Great Escape by Marsha Altman (bought at a used book sale)

Hilarious and action-packed, this installment brings the Darcy and Bingley families to the year 1812 and the intrigues of the Napoleonic Wars. Darcy and Dr. Maddox go in search of Darcy's missing half-brother and land in a medieval prison cell.

Much to his dismay, Charles Bingley is left to hold the fort at Pemberley while his sister Caroline, Elizabeth, and Col. Fitzwilliam traverse Europe on a daring rescue. Meanwhile, Lady Catherine de Bourgh kicks up a truly shocking scandal.

One never knows what might happen next between the estates of Rosings and Pemberley.

So what did you get in your mailbox last week?

  1. The Book of Awesome is fun, but read it in small doses. It's not the kind of book you read in one sitting.

  10. I've heard lots of positive reviews on The Book of Awesome. Going to Costco is a major danger zone for me. I go in with the mindset of buying one thing and come out with everything ELSE!

    Enjoy the reads :)
