From the Publishers:
It all began with a great idea ... and the inspiring original story of the Baby-sitters Club is back! Kristy Thomas's brilliant business plan gets off to a great start with the help of Claudia Kishi (vice-president), Mary Anne Spier (secretary), and Stacey McGill (treasurer).

Our thoughts:
A new book cover, a new generation of readers, and The Baby-Sitters Club continues to entertain yet more middle graders with the now well-known foursome who made babysitting an adventure. First published in 1986, this series is now getting ready to take on the 21st century.

Shortly after we received this review copy, I spotted the original series in a cart with a whole bunch of used books at the Salvation Army. I piled them into a box (I almost found the complete set!) and bought them for my 9 year-old daughter, who was thrilled. She quickly noticed that, unlike the review copy, the front cover of the original Book One: Kristy’s Great Idea showed a picture of the four girls, and she spent a lot of time looking at it and guessing who was who. The new updated cover is also cute.

Needless to say, my daughter really liked this book and is looking forward to reading the whole series. She liked Kristy’s idea of a babysitting club and thought that was so cool. She also liked that all the four girls, Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, and Stacey were different from each other, yet they were good friends and had to learn to appreciate each other's differences. Although they had a fight, they made up. I certainly thought this book was perfect for my daughter’s age group because the themes of friendship and creativity were strong. I can understand the appeal of this book for young girls who are tweens and ready to explore their new level of responsibility.

Have you read them all? Here is a printable checklist of all the various Baby-Sitters Club Series.

  1. Oh Yes! I had probably the first 30-40 books...then I went to jr/sr high and didn't get book orders any more. Yes, I also loved looking at the covers. They are so dated! :)

Unfortunately, I think my mom gave them away so I don't have my set to pass on.

  2. I haven't read any of these books! I think I was way too old when they came out. So glad your daughter loved it.

  3. I'm with Kathy I was too old when these came out, but I think they look like terrific books for a young girl!
