Mailbox Monday (4)

This meme is hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page. You should check out her blog and see what others have received and to play along.

Last week I received a treasure trove of children's and YA books. My kids were ecstatic! They love when I read books to them and they get the opportunity to add their input for the review.

From Scholastic Canada I received:

Perfect Snow by Barbara Reid
You're Mean, Lily Jean by Frieda Wishinsky
The Rocket by Mike Leonetti
Crow Call by Lois Lowry
AND:

My Story: Bloody Tower by Valerie Wilding

The Tower of London. A palace; fortress; prison. In February 1554, Lady Jane Grey, queen for just nine days is sentenced to a traitor’s death at the age of sixteen. Many say she doesn’t deserve to die, but there will be no mercy for her. Young Tilly Middleton, who also lives in the castle, records her thoughts and fears in her diary. And then she waits for her chance to deliver a very important letter — a letter that could change the course of history and the fate of Lady Jane Grey.

At The Edge: Daring Acts in Desperate Times by Larry Verstraete

When people face crisis situations, they must make critical life-or-death decisions. Stay or flee? Resist or submit? Help another or save yourself? More than twenty incredible true stories show people facing wrenching choices, and the decisions that had to be made, at the edge…
- A man sees a stranger fall into the path of an oncoming train. Does he try to help, or stay safe and let another die?
- A tsunami bears down on a woman and two children. She can only hold one. Which child does she let go?
- A young man sees his friend being attached by a polar bear. If he tries to help, he could be mauled. What action should he take?
What would you do?

The 39 Clues: The Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan

Amy and Dan Cahill know their family is big, but they don’t realize how big until their grandmother Grace’s funeral. Relatives arrive from all over the world by special invitation. In Grace’s last will and testament, she issues this challenge:
For your inheritance, you may have the first of thirty-nine clues. The first team to successfully put together the clues, which are scattered across the world, will discover the secret of Cahill power and become the richest, most important people in history.
Or you may take one million dollars in cash right now and walk away.
Amy and Dan take the challenge! Soon, they are catapulted into a dangerous round-the-world race for the thirty-nine clues. They will explore every continent, and delve into the strangest, darkest chapters of world history to find the secret origins of their family. Other teams will try to eliminate them by any means necessary, because in this treasure hunt only one team can win, and there are no rules.
