My Review
Reviewed by Sandra Olshaski

This is book 3 that continues the story of freedom-loving people in the make-believe country of Cordovia. We learn that Cordovia was settled by Spanish conquistadors and English aristocrats. The Rebel Series is inspired by the stories of men who fought for freedom.  And this book is loosely based on a man known as the Swamp Fox, a man of courage and valor. It’s a story of the good guys versus the bad guys set in an indeterminate  time, but the reference to sword-fighting, lamplighters, dueling guns,  capes, gowns, and pirates assures the reader that it is in the past.

There is a slowly-building mystery that begins when circumstances occur that force the heroine, Caroline, to flee for her life, often barely escaping by donning unusual disguises, provided by tall, dark, handsome Jesse Conover, who is a master of disguise. The inevitable romance occurs.

Issues such as women's abuse are part of the story about which the author obviously feels strongly about.

I have reviewed several books by this author and her books are consistently interesting and clean. This book is no exception.

As they strive to stop the Kingmen and thwart their plans, Christine finds herself falling in love with Austin Knight. The only problem with their relationship is that she thinks he is her knight in shining armor instead of a highwayman. If she finds out his trade, what will her reaction be? As a pastor’s daughter, will love override her values?

My Review:

I enjoyed this second book in the Rebel of Cordovia series with Austin Knight and Christine Griffiths as the main characters. Austin is the proverbial tall, dark and handsome hero, while Christine is a strong, independent, no nonsense, and multi-tasking pastor's daughter. She is a journalist exposing corruption in the government. Both of them are interested in justice for all in their country of Cordovia and have a growing interest in each other.

Some of the characters from the first book appear again, so we get to catch up with developments in their lives.

The story is a fight for right and justice that moves along quickly. There is intrigue, kidnapping and at the heart of it all a tender love story.

The author's notes about women journalists in history, plus the history of the waltz adds interesting tidbits to this historical romance. The author has a wonderful way of creating strong, independent women characters in all her books.

I wholeheartedly recommend this clean read.

This is book 7 in the Amelia Moore Detective Series and as usual, the author delivers a delightful, fairly fast-paced tale in the pursuit of a missing person, for that's what Amelia's agency specializes in. This time it is personal, as Rick's uncle Antonio Bonito dies in suspicious circumstances at the age of 48. Amelia and Rick are on the hunt for an answer. But what do lighthouses have to do with his disappearance?

The reader gets a glimpse into the warm, lively Italian Bonito family that Amelia has married into. They seem to be ordinary people, but as in every family, there are secrets that gradually become unravelled.

Each of the previous six books in the series has revealed bits and parts of Rick and Amelia; this book is no different, as the reader comes to understand why Rick is so zealous about his gym appointments. And why Amelia savours being part of her new family. The character development is complete with this latest and last tale about Amelia and Rick.

The reader gets a brief education into lighthouses, their importance in the past and the interesting uses they have today.

I enjoyed learning about Palm Springs, California, the home of many Hollywood starts of the past like Elvis, Bing Crosby, Cary Grant, and Bob Hope.

I wholeheartedly recommend this cozy mystery. I'm going to miss Amelia and Rick, but wish them well!

Successful, unmarried, 40-something lawyer Julie Anderson hires Amelia to find her childhood sweetheart, Joseph Yancey Witherbee, who disappeared 24-years previously under suspicious circumstances. So that’s basically the story – finding Joseph.
In the previous novels in this series there are “goons” following Amelia and Rick as they go about solving the mystery, but this time the author mixes it up a bit. I like it.

The Mysterious Doll by Linda Weaver Clarke

The Mysterious Doll (Amelia Moore Detective Series: Volume 4) by Linda Weaver Clarke
ISBN: 9781502929143

Trade paperback, 212 pages

Pauline Johnson asks Amelia’s help in finding her boyfriend, Sam Whittaker, who allegedly stole a 19th-century porcelain doll from a museum. So Amelia and her side-kick/boyfriend head to Colorado to find him.  Two mysterious men and an international thief, Nikki Wolf aka Slick Nick (I know) are also interested. So the story is basically finding Sam and retrieving the doll.

There is a beautiful description of the Rocky Mountains’ jagged cliffs, thick groves of pines trees, roaming elk, as well as the ‘elk bugling contest’ that add realism to the story.

As we have seen in the previous books in this series, there is a growing romance between Amelia and Rick. They spend wholesome romantic evenings eating brownies and popcorn, drinking hot chocolate and watching movies. There is an occasional romantic kiss. Romance is definitely in the air. And both are still working on their respective “bucket lists”.

A surprise ending rounds off this lively, cozy mystery. I enjoyed it.

The Missing Heir - Amelia Moore Detective Series (Book 3) by Linda Weaver Clarke

The Missing Heir – Amelia Moore Detective Series (Book 3) by Linda Weaver Clarke
ISBN: 978-1500114596
Published by: Red Mountain Shadows Publishing
Published: September 20, 2014
Paperback, 211 pages

Amelia Moore runs an investigation service, specializing in missing persons. She is ably assisted by Rick Bonito, a handsome, charming investigator. Their cases have taken them to a lot of interesting and exotic places. And, Amelia always solves the case. This is the third book in the Amelia Moore Detective Series, the two previous books being The Shamrock Case and The Bali Mystery.

Robert & Jenny Walker storm into Amelia’s office wanting her to find their cousin, Neal, heir to a fortune and owner of an orphanage in Mexico. He has been missing for two months. His inheritance will be forfeit if he doesn’t soon turn up to claim it and the orphanage will be sold.  Amelia agrees to take the case with only 7 days to find him.  Amelia and Rick quickly head to Veracruz, Mexico where Neal was last seen.

True to form, the author evokes a certain feeling for the country in which the mystery takes place. In this case, Mexico, replete with Mexican food, hot peppers, fiestas, and mariachi bands playing folk music.

I didn’t really learn anything new about Amelia and Rick. They are still attracted to each other, romantically involved and they still have their respective “bucket lists”.

This is a cozy mystery, which is, in the words of the author, “A cozy is an enjoyable story with a bit of humor. It can be slow paced but not boring by any means. The sleuth is always an intelligent and likeable woman.”

This is an entirely clean read that will appeal to fans of cozy mysteries, romance, and arm-chair travelogues.

Note: This book is rated C = clean read.

The Shamrock Case - Amelia Moore Detective Series (Volume 2)

The Shamrock Case – Amelia Moore Detective Series (Volume 2) by Linda Weaver Clarke
Red Mountain Shadows Publishing
ISBN: 978-1499537573
Published: June 23, 2014
e-book, 211 pages

We renew our acquaintance with Amelia Moore and Rick Bonito in volume 2 of The Amelia Moore Detective Series of cozy mysteries. Amelia is the founder of the Moore Detective Agency, specializing in missing persons. With the help of Rick Bonito, her new partner, her business is flourishing. And the romantic attraction between the two is growing!

Young, adopted Kate wants to learn about her heritage. Who are her grandparents and could they still be alive? Why did her parents leave Ireland suddenly and move to America? When Amelia is hired to search for her client’s grandparents, the case takes them to Ireland in search of answers for Kate.

I didn’t really get a “feel” for Ireland in the book. There is the typical visit to Blarney Castle to kiss the Blarney Stone, thereby receiving the “gift of eloquence”, better known as the gift of the gab and the mention of the popular River Dance that we've all seen on PBS, but I wasn't transported to the Emerald Isle. I did, however, appreciate learning about the meaning of the shamrock or clover that represents Irish religious beliefs (the Trinity) as well as the importance of traditional religion to the Irish that is at the heart of the mystery in this novel.

This is a fast-paced story of love, family discord, regret, and ultimate reconciliation, loosely based on events in the author’s family.

Author Linda Weaver Clarke has a charming way of writing and I believe she has another winner in the category of cozy mysteries.
