Sunday Post, Sunday Salon, Mailbox Monday and It's Monday What Are You Reading? Jan 3 Edition

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share our news. A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

Sunday Salon hosted by Readerbuzz is simply a place for us to link up and to share what we have been doing during the week. Sunday Salon is a great way to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

I had two days off last week and spent it with immediate family (also through Zoom) and taking long walks along the river near my home. It has finally snowed here. With the sun out everything is brighter and our temps are still mild.

I treated myself to a book subscription box: Chocolate and Book: Hidden Gem version. Two of my favorite things. It's from the UK. I looked into a Canadian subscription, thinking it would cost less on shipping, but it cost more overall.

I was excited to receive my first box last week.

This is what I saw when I first opened the box. A gluten free chocolate cookie and packets of hot chocolate. Underneath was more chocolate and a wrapped book with a bookmark:

The chocolate is good quality and comes from different parts of the world. When I unwrapped the book I was delighted to see it was a book that looked like a hidden gem:

So far I'm happy with this first experience. It's my treat, a gift to myself, for having worked hard all year!

Hope you are all well. Stay safe and take care of each other.

Mailbox Monday Edition

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. Mailbox Monday now has a permanent home on its blog. Link up to share your MM.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organize yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever-growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date.

What I reviewed and/or featured last week:

A time travel adventure romance centered around treasure hunting, pirates and secret societies.

See which books made it on my list

I've been wanting to read a novel by Elena Ferrante for a long time. After watching the trailer for Season One of My Brilliant Friend, I decided to borrow from the library this first book in what is known as the “Neapolitan quartet”.

I've decided my first book of the year would be a nonfiction book that I've been wanting to read ever since it was first sent to me.

  4. I love the idea of gifting yourself with a book subscription box. I've often thought of doing that. And not only books, but chocolate? Wow. Fabulous.

I've just finished reading oodles and oodles of picture books published in 2020, and now I'm eager to start reading again for 2021. Both Mia and Nattie and Dragons Don't Dance Ballet look wonderful.

I will be curious to see what you think of My Brilliant Friend.

  5. I'm so glad you liked your book box subscription. I like the idea of them but not the actuality. I prefer ebooks. So nice you had some time off. Happy New Year!

  6. I do Book of the Month, which I really like. It's good because we can pass on any month and not get charged. I hope you enjoy Books and Chocolate; those are two fabulous things so I can't imagine any month will be bad.

  15. Chocolates and books, what a wonderful box ! I read My brilliant friend and didn't overly love it, though I could understand why most readers do. It took me so long to read it because it was always borrowed/on hold at my library - a true success ! Enjoy the chocolates, they look good from afar (sigh) :)
