Sunday Post, Sunday Salon, Mailbox Monday and It's Monday What Are You Reading? Dec 20 Edition

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share our news. A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

Sunday Salon hosted by Readerbuzz is simply a place for us to link up and to share what we have been doing during the week. Sunday Salon is a great way to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

So because the situation is getting worse by the day, workers in public health are not allowed to take any vacation time until mid-January so I only have Dec 25, 31 and Jan 1 off. I'm hoping to get more time off in February.

I watched My Octopus Teacher and found it very touching. I have a newfound respect for the octopus. I'm still watching The Queen's Gambit and Poldark (Season 3 now).

I bought some new books to keep me company during the winter nights. I need variety in my reading. This week my reading was slow. I had too many other things occupying my time and mind.

Hope you are all well. Stay safe and take care of each other.

Mailbox Monday Edition

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. Mailbox Monday now has a permanent home on its blog. Link up to share your MM.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organize yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever-growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date.

What I reviewed and/or featured last week:

I was thrilled when Grisham goes back in time and writes a new novel featuring lawyer Jack Brigance.
A Time for Mercy is thrilling, emotional, suspenseful, and thought-provoking.

  1. I loved The Lost and Found Bookshop...and I am eyeing A Time for Mercy.

Enjoy those days off, as they are treasures at a time like this.

  2. Workers in public health should receive a bonus this year and next. I have new appreciation for people on the front lines in this pandemic. I hope you will get a lot of time off in February.

I have not seen Octopus Teacher, but it sounds like a book I read in November, The Soul of an Octopus. I think I would like it.

I wonder what you will think of Lost and Found Bookshop. Books set in libraries or bookshops are hard for me to resist.

    1. We actually did get a bonus during the first wave but not this time around. I love books set in libraries or bookshops too.

  3. My husband has always worked healthcare. In his last job, no one was ever allowed to request time off between Dec 15 and Jan 15. Something like that anyway. My husband didn't make the rule but he was in charge of the schedule so he had to enforce it. Oh my goodness. That was a thankless job to say the least. That's a large part of the reason he left paramedicine and transferred into the cath lab. I'm sorry you've been given similar orders in such a difficult year. I do hope you get extra time off in February. Will you have access to the vaccine soon?

It looks like you've found more Italy books to keep you occupied. Those should be nice to read during long winter nights!

The Lost and Found Bookshop has been on my radar for a little while. I need to track it down.

Enjoy your week and happy holidays!

    1. I hope February will be a better month and that I can take time off. They've started giving the vaccine here but to seniors in long-term care homes first.

Yes, I'm excited about my new books set in Italy. :-)

I've heard good things about that octopus show.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday.

  5. You got some good reads. I am just reading what I want which has been mostly police procedurals urban fantasy. I've worked a couple types of jobs where I only got the 6 major holidays off each year. Still, I wish you a lovely holiday season with peace and joy!

  8. I loved the Queen's Gambit. Great series. I also really enjoyed My Brilliant Friend. I still need to read the other two in the series and of course her new one she just published. Your nonfiction reading looks a lot like mine. I always seem to have 4 or 5 I'm working through! Glad I'm not the only one. I hope you enjoy your holidays!

  11. Aaah you've got great books to keep you company. So sorry you have to work, but thank you for all the sacrifices all you angels in health care are doing this dreadful year. May you be blessed.

The Melissa Muldoon book is going to be a problem if it get's popular. Who on earth is ever going to be able to read that name???

Merry Christmas to you and good luck at work. Be safe!
