Published Sept 2015
Hardcover, 32 pages

Book Description:

My name is Dewey—Inspector Dewey.

I live in the big green house on Hampshire Avenue with my family: Thumper, Lily, and Anna. I am the Big Cat—responsible for keeping everyone safe and in order. I do this quite well, in spite of the fact that managing my family is like, well, herding cats!

Mostly our life is peaceful. But one night it wasn’t. That was the night the bad guy showed up on our block. Of course, I knew exactly how to outsmart the outlaw, but—miserable mullet!—would Anna and the police understand my instructions?

To find out how the adventure ended, you’ll have to read my book. But I’ll give you a hint: there’s a reason I’m called Inspector Dewey.

Our Review:
Reviewed by Laura Fabiani and Son

Reviewing this adorable beautiful book was an experience. It came in the mail in a big envelope and inside it was wrapped in yellow tissue paper tied with a bow. It also came with a note, and a doorknob hanger with the message, "If you need to paws, I'll keep your spot." So sweet. What a beautiful presentation of the book!

My son can tell a good children's book from the first glance and this one had his instant approval. He thought it was so cool that it was told from the point of view of a cat and that it was based on a true story. We loved that although this is a children's story it was intelligently told using different words like swizzle, skirmish, patina, pilfer, strategizing, diversion, etc.

Inspector Dewey is lovable as are Thumper and Lily, but he was the storyteller and one can't help but be charmed by his feline talk and leadership qualities. His exclamations were priceless. "Crusty cod!" or "Freaking flounder!" He considers himself a mastermind and is self assured as he describes how, with "superfeline finesse" he helped nab a robber. Utterly charming... It's clear that there is love in this family, between Anna and Inspector Dewey and big Thumper and Lily who always gets her way.

The illustrations are creative, delightful and endearing. My son said that they made him want to reach out to pet the fluffy, smiling cats. They just won you over. One would never guess that this was Bofill's first picture book. Her illustrations were just perfect for this story.

I showed this book to my sisters, one who is a mother of two young boys and is eager to read it to them and the other who travels the world and holds a top project management position. She just oohed and aahed at the cute story and the lovely illustrations. Our verdict: a book for all ages, and animal lovers, but especially those who love cats and kitties.
