Marcus, Almagest’s dictator, is building an arsenal of alien weaponry by selling empathic children into slavery. A resistance has risen, but they are outmanned, outgunned, and in hiding.

Infinity is the second book in the Horizon series, which I read and enjoyed. The books are not stand-alone and Infinity continues from where Horizon left off. I enjoyed once again revisiting with the cast of characters from Horizon. This time, they return to the planet Almagest to join the Resistance fighters that Caeli was once a part of.  The Novali people, who are peaceable and empathic, are being held prisoners and their children used and sold as weapons to mercenaries. Derek, who is part of the Alliance, is given the mission to assist the Resistance fighters.

The author does a fantastic job of seamlessly continuing the story began in Horizon. She raises the stakes in this one, making this book much more emotional than the first. As a reader I was pulled into the resistance cause, with almost non-stop action heavy with bloody fighting and loss of loved ones. Once again, there is suspenseful action, political intrigue, romance and sci-fi adventure in this novel. Both Derek and Caeli's characters continue to grow and the secondary ones continue to play significant roles. The author is not afraid to push her characters to the limit, both physically, mentally and emotionally.

I am now invested in this series and know there will be another book since this one ends with an epilogue that's a heart-pounding opening for the next book. There is only one part of the book that I found somewhat disruptive. We are introduced to a backstory that I'm assuming took place a thousand years back that explains how the Novali people got their empathic powers. This backstory brought on a full set of new characters and new plot and it was interspersed throughout the novel. It was like reading a whole new novella within a novel. It took me awhile to understand what the backstory was about and I wished the author had used another method or eliminated this part altogether, although it felt like this story wasn't complete and may continue in the third book.

There is content in this novel for those readers sensitive to warfare and torture violence and f-words. The sex scenes are not explicit.

Tabitha Lord has created an exciting series in Horizon and Infinity and I eagerly look forward to reading the third book!

This book had both. Read my review and enter to win one of 5 prize packages that contains: Horizon (Book #1) and Infinity (Book #2) by Tabitha Lord and a $10 Amazon gift card!

I'm an eclectic reader and if the book description sounds good, I will read it no matter what the genre. With sci-fi books, one can expect all kinds of world-building and, of course, space travel. This book had both. The story begins with Derek crashing his spaceship on the planet Almagest, where he is rescued and healed by Caeli. Caeli is of the Novali people, and she is on the run, living in the woods. She is an empathic healer, in other words she can touch a person and with her mind see where the body is injured and heal it with her mind. She can also read a person's mind by touching them.

I found this aspect of the story fascinating. Caeli uses her powers for good as the Novali people are taught to do from childhood, but the Amathi people, the enemies, all but destroyed the Novali and want to use their power as a weapon. When Caeli's story is recounted, it felt like I was reading a dystopian novel, a genre I enjoy. Toward the second half of the book, it shifts to the setting of space and Horizon, Derek's spaceship. I thoroughly enjoyed Caeli's and Derek's story, and their romance too.

Derek is part of the Alliance and he is on a mission which ties in to Caeli's world. There is action, political intrigue, romance and sci-fi adventure in this novel. The author builds her characters well and distinctly and I liked both the main characters and the secondary ones.

The story ends with a tie-in for the second book Infinity, which I am currently reading. There is content in this novel for those readers sensitive to violence and f-words. The sex scenes are not explicit, including the rape scene.

Tabitha Lord has created an exciting series in Horizon and I look forward to reading more of her work!
