Best Books I Read in 2018
In 2018, I read a total of 84 books compared to 103 last year. Here is the breakdown:
6 children's books (picture books)
3 middle-grade books
6 YA books
51 adult fiction
18 adult non-fiction
Once again, my reading goal for this year is to read more leisure books and not just those for review, and I will continue to be an advocate for kidlit, even though my kids are teens and are no longer reading books with me.
Here are my favorite reads of 2018 (Yes, there are more than ten!). It doesn't mean they were published this year, only that I read them this year:
In the category of Children, Middle-Grade and YA Books:
Vibrant, funny and full of emotions
A heartwarming coming-of-age story about a boy learning to deal with the loss of his mother
I was delighted with the author's second charming and witty Regency story
This book is entertaining, memorable and fun for lovers of time travel fantasy novels
The perfect ending to one of the best dystopian trilogies I've read
In Adult Fiction:
An emotionally gripping story of one woman's life as she gets caught up in an affair of the heart
If you like noir fiction, espionage historical fiction, then look no further
This is a story of betrayal, love, vengeance and ultimately forgiveness set in a small Italian town in the 1800s
The first book in the Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery series with a whole new set of characters is another winner by one of my favorite authors
I savored this novel page by page and loved the Canadian history
With brilliant dialogue, a smart heroine and a character-driven plot, this Regency romance captivated my attention from the first page right down to the last
If I read romance it has to have substance and this was a very satisfying read
James Anderson is a master storyteller, with a narrative that is entertaining as much as it is reflective
In Non-fiction:
Heart-warming, funny and told from both the perspectives of Liane and her cat Tammy
A beautiful and touching story with an ending that had me bawling my eyes out
And there you have it!
Have you read any of these books?
I like Kearsley but haven’t read Belleweather yet. I discovered Mimi Matthews just recently and have devoured her books since then. The Matrimonial Advertisement is one of my favorites this year.
ReplyDeleteI have Mimi's other book The Lost Letter and plan to read it soon.
DeleteHappy New Year! Great list. I like the cover on Duels & Deception. Anything with dogs and I tend to cry, even if it's a happy story lol. Darcy The Dog Who Talked sounds sweet.
ReplyDeleteDarcy was a sweet heartwarming book!
DeleteGreat list! I really want to read Nothing Rhymes with Orange.
ReplyDeleteYeah...there's so much great kidlit out there. And we're never too old to enjoy it.
DeleteThank you so much, Laura! I'm honored that ICE made it onto your list! Looks like it is in great company!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Lauren. I can't wait to read the next book WINTER FROST!
DeleteCongrats on reading 84 books! It looks like you found some good ones. Happy 2019!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Thanks AJ! Reviewing one's reading in the past year is good as it makes us remember just how many good books we've read.
DeleteThese books are all new to me. Good job on 84 books, and congrats on 11 years of book blogging!
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of A Wager to Win. Nice to know that Lullaby Road made this list for you.
ReplyDeleteWell done on 11 years of blogging!
