Our Review:
Reviewed by Laura and Son

Both my son and I thought the whole concept of reading a flip-sided book to be quite neat. Young children love to have the same book read to them over and over and with this book you can do that by flipping the book over and reading more about hugs and love but with a different set of animals.

The book shows a variety of scenes with a parent and child as they go about their activities of the day; at breakfast, at playtime, after school, and at nighttime. It is filled with the message that a parent will hug the child throughout the day as they spend it together, because the parent loves his child. This book is perfect to read at any time of the day but especially at night as it is very comforting and prepares the child for the routine of the next day.

The watercolor illustrations are soft and colorful, depicting well the feel-good message of the book. Both my son and I love that the author/illustrator used a variety of wild and exotic animals, such as the hippopotamus, rhinoceros, armadillo, snake, octopus, flamingo and platypus. And the adult depicted could be a mother or father or even a grandparent.

This is a beautiful book for parents to read together with their young child. It is a comforting book with a message that should never end, just like the concept of a flip-sided book.

About the Illustrator:

I'm an illustrator and an author of children's books. From the time I was a little kid, I’ve wanted to write and illustrate children’s books. I used to staple paper together and make tiny books for my dolls.

When I was in 5th grade, my wonderful teacher laminated and bound our stories and illustrations together into books. It is called The Dog Around the Corner, and is about a dog named Claude and his adventures in his neighborhood. I've since illustrated many picture books, one of which I’ve written, Soup Day.

If I had written my life story as a little girl, it would be pretty close to the one I am living. I get to do what I have always dreamed of doing.
