Today we are kicking off the tour for Giving Candy to Strangers by Stan Holden. Are you looking to grow your business? This informative guide might be just what you need. Here's what author Stan Holden says about marketing and writing a book:
Marketing and Making go Together by Stan Holden
Over that last year I have been asked by several people, including a few celebrities, "I want to write a book, where do I start?"
The answer to that question may be different for everyone… but two of the common denominators to it are... YOU HAVE TO START…. and YOU HAVE TO MARKET and both go together. And of course, I would also recommend to anyone wanting to write a book or start a business that they read “Giving Candy To Strangers” to help them get motivated and inspired enough to start!
I started marketing my book BEFORE I ever wrote a word. There are many reasons for that. With any business, marketing is a big, big part it. I have spent as much time marketing my book as I did writing it! Hence, I have sold it to a publisher and thousands of copies have already been purchased.
By making marketing part of the creative process—whether through a project or the creating of relationships—The marketing is not seen as such. Take Disney for example, they are masters at doing this.
Giving Candy To Strangers is counter intuitive in approach in terms of standard business practice. It’s about throwing out your proverbial to toy chest of experiences, breaking the rules, and doing business differently.
My philosophy has always been to jump out of the plane and put the parachute on while on my way down… figuratively speaking of course. Obviously you do need a plan (or a plane in this case) and you need to know what your message and brand are… but then you need to jump out of the plane and market while you are going about the business of your business.
Consider the MARKETING of your idea as PART of your idea and you will go much farther… much faster!

Too many sales people are focused on the end result, the outcome—the close—and another notch on their gun! But, what if you approached “sales” from a heart-centered standpoint, with curiosity and playfulness, as though the world were your sandbox?
What if you created relationships for no other reason than to help others and make new friends? I know what you are saying, "How can it not be about results when it comes to business?"
The bottom line is important, but if you detach from this burden while you are creating relationships, you will find that the health of your bottomline will improve on its own!
