First Book of the Year 2016
Posted by Laura at Library of Clean Reads on January 01, 2016 in First book of the year | Comments : 48
The lovely Sheila at Book Journey is once again hosting First Book of the Year and this is the third year I participate. It's a meme where we share the first book we will be reading in 2016. If you head on over to Sheila's blog she has a cool montage of all those participating. Here is the pic of me with the book I chose to read:
I've heard so many good things about All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. The copy I am holding is the copy I bought for a friend of mine when the book was just published. I picked it up at Costco, read the back cover and thought, "This sounds amazing." I was right because it then went on to win the Pulitzer Prize and the Goodreads Choice Award for 2014.
So I have been wanting to read this one for a long time. It's a perfect way to treat myself on this first day of 2016. I know this is going to be a great reading year. I hope you all have a great book to start your year with!

We just read this one for book club - well I should say they did... I have not read many books the last couple of months. It made for good discussion.
ReplyDeleteYes, I remember reading your post about that. I'm a moody ready so there are times in my life where I cannot read certain books. And that's okay. :-)
DeleteHappy New Year! Hope you really enjoy this one!
ReplyDeleteI have this one on my shelves but haven't gotten to it yet. It does sound absolutely amazing. Hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand. I have so many on my shelf that I have to get to...
DeleteI have heard really good things about this book...I must try to read it this year. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog. Great photo!
ReplyDeleteBetter late than never for some books, right?

Thanks, Deb. I'm itching for a good rich story.
DeleteI had gotten an eGalley of this and loved what I read, but had other reading obligations and put it down. I definitely have to finish this! Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think it's one of those books worth reading. :-)
DeleteI've heard great things about that book too. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant choice - I read this a little while back and was really taken with it - certainly a different take on WWII. Hope you have an excellent 2016
ReplyDeleteYes, I like books that have a different take on WWII. Glad you enjoyed it!
DeleteI had to read this for my book club, not my kind of book but I do remember thinking different areas were written beautifully. Enjoy
ReplyDeleteIt's true that even when a book is not our cup of tea, if it's well-written we can appreciate that.
DeleteIt's on my TBR list. I hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteI heard a lot of good things about the book. I hope you're enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time getting into this book, though it may have been my mood at the time. I know it's gotten fantastic reviews, so I may pick it up again in the future. Hope you love it, and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI'm a moody reader too, so I get what you're saying!
DeleteHau'oli Makahiki Hou. I've seen this book around a lot since adding more book bloggers to my feed. I'm glad this book is living up to the hype.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you picked a really great book to start the new year off with. I hope you love it. Happy New Year Laura!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Laura. Your first book is one I've been meaning to try.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this one, but it sounds like I may need to check it out. I hope you have a Happy Reading 2016 Year...
ReplyDeleteI loved that book! I hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading to you in 2016!! I hope you enjoy your 1st read of 2016!!
ReplyDeletePicking a book that you've been wanting to read for a while is a good route to go down with your first pick of the year, and the full circle this copy has come is interesting! I hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteReading With Jade
I still have not read this book yet, but hopefully I will get to it this year! I plan to read The Song of Achilles as my first read of 2016. :D
ReplyDeleteI've heard good things about The Song of Achilles.
DeleteGood choice! We read this one for book club too. Happy 2016 Reading to you!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year. Sounds like you've picked a good book for yourself. I see somebody said a different take on WW11 so now wondering what that is! Hope you love it.
ReplyDeleteI like WWII books so when they explore the setting in a different way, I'm always intrigued.
DeleteThis is another one that I have on my shelves but just haven't had the time to read yet. I feel like I say that a lot :). I hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat choice! I've actually borrowed this from the library twice and never got to it either time... not good with deadlines, I guess. Happy New Year!!
ReplyDeleteI've done that too with library books! So many good books so little time...
DeleteGreat choice! I haven't read it but have gone to a book signing of one of his earlier books (he grew up around here). Hope it lives up to the hype!
ReplyDeleteMmmm...now I want to look up his earlier books. When I read an author I like I usually go digging for any other books they wrote.
DeleteHeard this is good but I haven't read it yet.
ReplyDeleteLoved this book. It was on my 2015 favorite list.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that. Hope it will make it on my 2016 favorite list...
DeleteThis has been on my list forever. I think I was scared off by the hype. I will definitely read it in 2016
ReplyDeleteNo matter the hype, I always start reading a book with moderate expectations. I try not to let the hype get to me. I've been wanting to read this book before it got all its awards. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteLoved this book. Maybe not so much when I started reading, but later on as I began to understand the "message" underlying the story line I couldn't put it down. Right now, I'm reading Celebrity Obsession and Sing Them Home. One of these should be familiar to you. :)
ReplyDeleteStories like this really catch my attention. Hope you're loving your first books of the year. :-)
DeleteGreat choice.
ReplyDeleteLove your photo and the bookshelves in the background.
Happy New Year, Laura.
