Through the Fire by Chris Uyi (Review and Giveaway)

Through the Fire by Chris Uyi
Quickfox Publishing
ISBN: 978-0620633833
Published October 2014
Paperback, 110 pages

As with the first book, this one also has an attractive book cover that pulls the reader in and suits the book well. That image of smoke or fire really is mesmerizing. This is a small book, fits neatly in a small purse, and can be read in an hour.

This is the second book I read by author Chris Uyi. The first one titled LIFE: Sentiments & Realities (read my review) I found quite thought-provoking. Through the Fire has a different feel from the first one although it is written in Uyi's trademark writing filled with beautiful metaphors and quotes.

In the last section of the book under the subtitle Man in the Mirror, Uyi writes:

Gradually, sailing in the ocean of mediocrity and close to the shores and failure and defeat, like the proverbial prodigal son who came to himself just before utter destruction, this young man came to himself.

Apart from giving you an idea of Uyi's beautiful writing, this sentence encompasses what this whole book is about. Uyi compares himself to the prodigal son and shares with his readers his life lessons. These lessons are quite direct. Uyi states plainly that "The scars and burns from the heat of life are caused by our desires, passions and sorrows." While this may be true, I felt as I was reading the book that Uyi wrote this primarily to heal his soul from all he has been through, and now compassionately seeks to help others in the process.

However, there were things I did not agree with, while others I wholeheartedly agreed with, such as the fact that practicing peace is achieved through loving our fellow man. There are generalizations in the book that did not always render it practical, such as seeking the law of truth. What one man considers truth may not be what another considers it to be. So whose law of truth does one follow? Readers may ask such questions throughout the book. Meditation will not always provide the answers, especially for persons who are struggling with ingrained habits such as alcoholism and drug use.

Overall, this book is very philosophical, and although I enjoyed Uyi's writing and I applaud his efforts to share his life lessons, this book remains one man's thoughts on finding happiness and success in life.

This book is rated C = clean read.
