Children's Author Barbara Reid wins Writer's Trust of Canada Award!

A few years ago, my children and I reviewed Barbara Reid's book Perfect Snow and we both absolutely loved her Plasticine artwork, especially my son. (You can read our review here.) She brought out the images in meticulous details and we spent quite some time perusing her book as we read it. So it came as no surprise that this children’s book illustrator and author recently won the $20,000 Vicky Metcalf Award for Literature for Young People. Congratulations to Barbara!

The CBC News website stated:  The judges hailed the Toronto writer and artist's "brilliant integration of text and illustration," adding that her "words seem to leave the lines and become enmeshed in the art. Her text is actually an understated guide to the detailed exuberance of the pictures."

Watch this video in which Barbara Reid shows us how her Plasticine masterpieces come together. Here she puts together a scene from her book, Picture a Tree.

As stated on the The Writer's trust of Canada website, Barbara Reid is recognized as one of Canada’s major literary figures. Her work, 28 books to date, has received critical acclaim both nationally and internationally. Published initially in both English and French, she has now been published in over 19 countries.
