Mailbox Monday (43)

My month of October was so crazy that although I received a steady stream of books I did not post them on Mailbox Monday. However, I missed checking out what other bloggers got in their mailboxes so I'm participating again this month.

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. It was created by Marcia at The Printed Page and is on a blog tour! This month's host is Knitting and Sundries.
Here are the highlights of my last month:

A Royal Likeness by Christine Trent (from author)

As heiress to the famous Laurent Fashion Dolls business, Marguerite Ashby's future seems secure. But France still seethes with violence in the wake of the Revolution. And when Marguerite's husband is killed during a riot, the young widow travels to Edinburgh and becomes apprentice to her old friend, Marie Tussaud, who has established a wax exhibition. When Prime Minister William Pitt commissions a wax figure of Admiral Nelson, Marguerite becomes immersed in a dangerous adventure - and earns the admiration of two very different men. And as Britain battles to overthrow Napoleon, Marguerite will find her loyalties under fire from all sides. With a masterful eye for details, Christine Trent brings one of history's most fascinating eras to life in of a story of desire, ambition, treachery, and courage.

Got an Angry Kid? Parenting Spike: A Seriously Difficult Child by Andrew D. Gibson (from ReviewTheBook.com)

Does your family live in conflict?
Does your child have a psychiatric label (such as ADHD, oppositional defiance, conduct disorder, bi-polar disorder) or the behavior that would get him/her one?
Have you lost (or nearly lost) control of your child?

If you answered YES to any of these three things, then PACT can help you as it has helped thousands of other families restore love and integrity to their relationships!

My Marquette: Explore The Queen City of the North--Its History, People and Places by Tyler R. Tichelaar (from author)

My Marquette is the result of its author's lifelong love affair with his hometown. Join Tyler R. Tichelaar, seventh generation Marquette resident and author of The Marquette Trilogy, as he takes you on a tour of the history, people, and places of Marquette. Stories of the past and present, both true and fictional, will leave you understanding why Marquette really is "The Queen City of the North." Along the way, Tyler will describe his own experiences growing up in Marquette, recall family and friends he knew, and give away secrets about the people behind the characters in his novels. My Marquette offers a rare insight into an author's creation of fiction and a refreshing view of a city's history and relevance to today. Reading My Marquette is equal to being given a personal tour by someone who knows Marquette intimately.

Our Earth: How Kids Are Saving the Planet by Janet Wilson (from Second Story Press)

Young people are doing amazing things for the future of our planet. Here are true stories of kids from around the world who each had an idea that started small and turned into something big. Read about ways that you too can make a difference, like William Kamkwamba in Malawi who used the power of wind to change the life of his village. Or Kruti Parekh from India who makes magic with recycling. There is Janine Licare in Costa Rica who is saving the rainforest and its animals, and Ryan Hreljac from Canada who is building wells in Africa to bring people clean water. And Sam Levin from the USA whose organic school vegetable garden is connecting kids directly with their food. All of them are helping our Earth, and you can too.

The Orphan Rescue by Anne Dublin (Second Story Press)

Miriam and her little brother, David, are poor. They don’t have much, but they have their grandparents who love them. Miriam is upset when she has to leave school to work in a butcher shop. But something even worse happens when, because their grandparents can no longer afford to take care of them, David is sent to live at the Jewish orphanage. Miriam and David don’t understand. How can you be an orphan when you still have a family? Miriam wants to rescue David and bring him home. But how? Does Mr. Reznitsky, the orphanage director, care about the children, or is he using them? Miriam is determined to make a plan. She will think of it like a game of checkers, and this time the prize will be her brother.

She's Gone Country by Jane Porter (Won from Reviews From the Heart)

Shey Darcy, a 39-year-old former top model for Vogue and Sports Illustrated led a charmed life in New York City with a handsome photographer husband until the day he announced he'd fallen in love with someone else. Left to pick up the pieces of her once happy world, Shey decides to move back home to Texas with her three teenage sons. Life on the family ranch, however, brings with it a whole new host of dramas starting with differences of opinion with her staunch Southern Baptist mother, her rugged but overprotective brothers, and daily battles with her three sons who are also struggling to find themselves. Add to the mix Shey's ex-crush, Dane Kelly, a national bullriding champ and she's got her hands full. It doesn't take long before Shey realizes that in order to reinvent herself, she must let go of an uncertain future and a broken past, to find happiness--and maybe love--in the present.

Code Triage by Candace Calvert (Won from Genre Reviews)

Dr. Leigh Stathos likes her ER shifts fast, furious, and adrenaline-infused—“Treat ’em and street ’em”—with no emotional complications. Life’s taught her a soul-rending lesson: nothing lasts forever, including marriage. And the clock is ticking toward the end of hers. Then an unwelcome confrontation with “the other woman” begins a whole new set of lessons.
San Francisco police officer Nick Stathos never gives up, whether protecting his patrol neighborhood, holding fast to faith—or trying to save his marriage. Seven days is all he has to reach Leigh’s heart. But when a desperate act of violence slams Golden Gate Mercy Hospital into lockdown, it starts a chain of events that will change lives forever.
